I spend a large majority of my time doing open source development without
pay. However, I have received so much more than any sum of money through
the learning, and from those who have used what I work on. It is so
enjoyable to support open source, even from the learning side alone.
Eventually I would like to allocate some of my time for paid support,
but currently I have no employment (other than doing some underpaid
website development with Drupal). I have to pay for living expenses,
maintain my computers and network so that I can work on open source in
the first place, and save money for the future. Through all of the
support, users, and friends I have obtained from working on open source,
I have been taught that your most improbable dreams are only as
improbable as you allow them to be. My dream is to revolutionize
computing and other facets of life. I want to do away with illogical
bloated methods and replace them with entirely open source, elegant
solutions.
I have probably spent well over a
thousand hours on Zenserver alone, and possibly the same length of time on
the
Arch Linux fork I am working on now. Many people have chosen
Zenserver over any other distribution, and their choice of something I
have worked on alone makes all of the work so worth-while. I will try to
achieve my dreams one way or another, but they will certainly come more
easily with a donation. Please do not feel obligated to donate no
matter how much time I may have spent supporting you directly or doing
development. But if you wish to donate, it would help tremendously. I will
not accept any money with strings attached, as I believe that open
source is meant to be completely open without corporate agenda. But if
you have a feature request or idea that suits the project, I may
certainly work towards implementing it. Not all
of a donation will directly support my work on open source, but I am
sure at least 90% will, and the other 10% will help keep me going. Note
that any donations via Paypal will go to my dad's account, because I am
not yet old enough to open one. If you are willing to donate hardware
and pay for shipping (I may be able to pay for shipping in some cases),
it would be a huge help as well. However, please
contact
me to see if the hardware is actually needed or not.
Thank you so much,
